2024 Scholar-Athlete Reception

11 members of CSU’s undergraduate class of 2024 were celebrated as scholar-athletes at a dessert reception on Thursday, April 25. Joined by professors, coaches and staff members in the Murphy Memorial Library, the students were recognized for completing at least two years as a student-athlete and graduating with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The honorees chose a professor to present them with the Scholar-Athlete medal, which they will wear at Commencement.

36 scholar-athletes, in all years of undergraduate study, were invited to the event. They earned an invitation by playing at least one sport this academic year and having a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA to date.

Mike Show, director of athletics, welcomed guests and gave the opening prayer. Dr. Sherrie Holloway, chair of the health and human performance programs, shared what it means to earn the designation of scholar-athlete at CSU. Dr. Jim Lytle, president, gave closing remarks and prayer. Assistant Athletic Director Kelly Fry organized the event.

Clarks Summit University offers more than 80 programs of study. Athletes compete in 12 NCAA DIII sports: men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, tennis and cross country; men’s golf; women’s volleyball; men’s baseball, and women’s softball.

CSU’s Department of Athletics cultivates Christ-centered, career-ready student-athletes through intercollegiate athletics. The goal of the Defender athletics program is to point an unbelieving world to a believable God by pursuing athletic excellence. With a focus on servant-leadership, coaches and staff encourage students to glorify God with attitudes, effort, and responses that reflect Jesus Christ.
